Mar 21, 2019 Please try to open Word in Safe Mode to have a check: Press Windows + R to start Run, type the command winword /safe in the box. After you open Word in Safe Mode, click File Open to open a document in Word. Does the issue still occur? Please try to reset your Word options and registry settings to have a check. Apr 20, 2018 Word 2016: what does 'Directory name isn't valid' mean? When I try to launch a file created in an older version of Word, the above phrase appears. It seems there is no way I can use older files in Word '16 except as read-only in textedit. Microsoft word the directory name isn't valid mac.
