Jan 03, 2011 Scenario You have some text in a Word document that you'd like to repeat later in that document. You don't want to write it twice (or more), and you'd rather not copy/paste it from the other location as that means that you'll have to remember to maintain it in both places if there are changes.
- For this example, follow these steps: Click the New button on Word’s Standard toolbar to open a new, blank Word document. Choose Insert→Field. In the Categories list, choose Date and Time. In the Field Names list, choose Time. The description in the dialog changes to The Current Time.
- In a Word form in Office 2011 for Mac, a combo field is a pretty neat thing. Use a combo when you want the user to choose an entry from a list of choices. The Combo Box field is also referred to as a Drop-Down Form field.
I place a graphic of the original form in the header/footer area, and I add each form field into a frame for positioning. I have problems when I need to add/change fields as it appears that the 'Tab Order' is based on the order which the fields/frames are created (If I create or paste a new frame/field, that field will be added to the end of the tab order; if I drag-copy an existing frame/field, that field will appear in the tab order after the field it was copied from)
I don't see any way to move frames up or down within the Zorder, or to set a tab order. Is there any way to reset the existing order, or do I need to cut/paste each field if I end up needing to add a field at a particular place or rearrange the order of fields?
Also, is there a way to select more than 1 frame/field? If I need to move or copy an entire section, having to do it one field at a time is very tedious.
It appears to me that checkboxes cannot be mutually exclusive (i.e. Male or Female) - is there any way to limit a group to 1 selection (I cannot use Macros, as I don't have control over the platform or version that it will be used or the security settings that will be set)
I also dont' see any way to make the frames transparent, is this true? Currently, I need to redraw the lines in the form over top of the fields, which is also very time consuming especially when the client makes changes.
Any help with these issues would be most appreciated.

Click in your document at the position to insert the form field.
On the Developer tab of the Ribbon, click the Combo Box button.
A small gray box appears.
Click the Form Fields Options button on the Developer tab of the Ribbon.
The Drop-Down Form Field Options dialog opens.

The top half of this dialog lets you build the list of choices that will appear when the Drop-Down button is clicked in your finished, protected form.

Drop-Down Item: Type an item to appear in the drop-down list.
Add: Adds your typed Drop-Down item to the Items in Drop-Down List.
Remove: Removes a selected item from the Items in the Drop-Down List.
Items in Drop-Down List: These items appear in the drop-down list of choices that appears when the Drop-Down button is clicked in your finished, protected form.
Move: Select an item in Items in Drop-Down List. Click an arrow to move it up or down in the list.
Field Settings: Here are the field settings:
Bookmark:Give the drop-down list a name ending with a number. The numbers you assign should be sequential.
Calculate on Exit: If you use calculations, you can select this check box to cause Word to perform the calculations after the control is used.
Drop-down Enabled: When selected when the user clicks a button in the form field, a pop-up menu displays showing the items in the drop-down list.

When you’re done setting up the combo box and you select it within the form, it works like a regular pop-up menu.
